Dunmore Head

In the Blasket Sound below the head two Spanish Armada ships the San Juan and the Santa Maria la Rosa sunk in 1588. At the highest point on the headland is an Ogham Stone, it indicates the pagan ancestry of the people it commerates. It reads: Erc Maqu Ercias Mu Dovinia. Dovinia is alleged to have given her name to the Dingle Peninsula. The Head is the most Westerly point in Europe.
