Cath Fionntragha [Battle of Ventry Strand] is the scene in which the ancient romantic tale is founded on. This tale, as told in the 15th century manuscript now in Bodleian Library, Oxford, is obviously intended for recitation with it's long rows of alliterative adjectives and vivid descriptions. This legend describing how Daire Donn, King of the World and his vassals landed at Ventry, attempting to invade Ireland, where the Fianna under the leadership of Fionn Mac Cumhaill defeated them.
